As a child I was shy and become very nervous when meeting new people or trying a new activity and I'm sure this is true for many of us.
Now I can see some of these similar traits in my own children and I'm keen to ensure they don't fall into the same traps and negative cycles of thinking which have hindered me.
These reticent tendencies from my youth continued into adulthood and although I have been working on my lack of confidence for years at times it is still there. Although life has worked out happily for me in recent years, it has not always been the case and I turned down many blind alleys in search of self belief.
Why is it then while some of us find gaining a confidence a challenge others can appear to breeze through life seemingly without a care in the world, taking everything in their stride. Were they born that way or have they learned the skill of being confident?
Susan Cain author of Quiet:The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking, states it is too simplistic to label children shy or bold and there can be significant benefits from inheriting a sensitive temperatment.
Anyway, although it may be helpful at times to "look before you leap" I think all of us who lack self belief would prefer to feel more assured and confident.
This blog will look at my many errors and the lessons I have learned to help me on my on-going search for self belief.
Cheers
AM
